PIREP - Stark AvionicsAs many of you, I appreciate pireps from those of you with knowledge of shops you use (bad or good) and love to pass on my experience for your consideration of others too. After a so-so experience within a recent avionics install, I came across myself seeking an alternate avenue to the installing a fresh transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The cost of one was high which i actually busted out laughing on the mobile phone just as if I were at a comedy bar. He was apparently much less amused when i. I was telling the storyplot of my local quote to some friend with the airport and the man recommended i call John Stark at Stark Avionics for any quote. In doing my due diligence just before calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps on the shop. In doing so, I came across an absolutely terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you want you just read it). This pirep caused me serious concern about if you should call Stark to get a quote.
I posted a broad query for suggestions about an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He and that i spoke regarding his exposure to Stark and that i thought we would give John a call depending on the two recommendations I received from trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns regarding the negative pirep on MS and the fact that I became gun shy using the previous experience. As they always say, there's two sides to every story and John took his time for you to explain his side to me at all like me certain he will be happy to use someone else who wishes to call him up in that regard. Our conversation shifted from your pirep to pricing. John and i also discussed different equipment options, what might best suit my needs/wants and also the flat rate installed price for every option. We ultimately chose to install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted us a soft price, but was up front that the number could be slightly higher if your tray was riveted in (as much Mooneys are). I went to manchester airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were placed on screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded in a really timely manner and confirmed the predetermined fee price for your equipment and install in some recoverable format and that we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane was to be dropped off the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said although have everything ready by Tuesday, however opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday in the event that there are some snags on the way.
